When you hire a professional photographer to snap pics at your 18th party, you kinda hope you’ll look back on the pictures with fondness in years to come.
That’s not the case for Ozzie Paul Behman, whose party has been seen the world over thanks to the haircut of friend Ali “Ziggy” Mosslmani.
Ziggy was rocking quite the mullet, and it was this picture, posted to the Facebook page of photographer Jeremy Nool, that started the meme machine:
Paul does say that he thinks the memes are hilarious, but Ziggy sure doesn’t think so.
He’s actually tried to sue Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail and the Australian Radio Network for defamation, saying that “the widespread coverage of the memes portrayed him as “hideously ugly” and subjected him to ridicule”.
Some of those memes:
A full album of all the memes can be found HERE.
Here’s the BBC with how that lawsuit played out:
…in a preliminary judgement District Court Judge Judith Gibson dismissed claims that he had been portrayed as ugly, instead saying “his haircut has been criticised as ridiculous,
“This photograph needs to be seen in context with the six photoshopped pictures…none of which suggest physical ugliness on the part of the plaintiff, let alone “hideous” ugliness,” said Judge Gibson.
Gibson added that Ziggy’s defence “seems to be designed to claim as many imputations as possible while simultaneously avoiding a defence of honest opinion or justification.”
The actual trial begins on November 17, but you’d have to think Ziggy is fighting a losing battle.
Whilst the man himself has been tough to contact, the BBC did speak to party host Paul:
“Ziggy doesn’t really get angry at people he doesn’t know making fun of his haircut but gets upset when people he knows make fun of it.”
And despite the drama, Ziggy probably won’t be changing his hairdo any time soon. “He has had this hairstyle for over four years. I think he will keep his hairstyle.”
You rock the mullet, you face the consequences.
