Thankfully most of us will never experience the terror of inadvertently being a part of a shooting like that in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, because it’s impossible to comprehend the feeling of fear and helplessness that must have enveloped the venue.
We’ll also never understand what was going through shooter Omar Mateen’s mind, but thanks to a series of 911 calls we can at least get a glimpse inside this monster’s mind.
The shooting left 49 people dead and a further 68 injured, and now the audio from Mateen’s calls has finally been released. TIME reports:
Mateen spoke with police throughout a series of phone calls between 2:35 a.m. and 3:25 a.m. on the night of the shooting…Circuit Judge Margaret Schreiber ordered the city to immediately release the audio of the calls on Monday.
