You might be worried about the future of your posture, but are you $26,000 worried?
If so, you can drop that amount of cash on a chair created by bioengineer David Wickett.
In the hope of creating a chair that would make you feel “weightless”, he used the equation he developed during his 10 years of research as the “backbone of the chair,” according to Digital Trends. They elaborate on just what that equation does:
When you recline in the chair, its carbon-fibre skeleton “engages perfectly” with your body. There’s a spot between lying and sitting up when your body “passes through” zero gravity, your weight is evenly distributed, and “this results in sensory attenuation which is the principle of flotation therapy,” according to Wickett’s website. Or to paraphrase, the 25-degree angle at which you kick back in the chair is supposedly the most comfortable and puts the least strain on your back, says the doctor.
While we don’t exactly have R360 000 to spend, we wouldn’t be surprised if top designers in South Africa, like Robert Thomson, stock them when more than just 20 are available for purchase.
Because you know, Atlantic Seaboard.
Also, the chair is covered in Scandinavian leather and comes in 70 colour options – and considering the whole “zero gravity” aspect, it’s cheaper than a trip to space.
