According to one 63-year-old man, women over 20 shouldn’t wear yoga pants in public. This was made clear in the letter Alan Sorrentino wrote to a small Rhode Island newspaper:
They do nothing to compliment a woman over 20 years old. In fact, the look is bad. Do yourself a favour, grow up and stop wearing them in public.
Of course, this caused massive outrage. Well, as massive as one can get in Barrington, Rhode Island.
On Sunday, 300 women took to the streets to demonstrate against Sorrentino’s words, calling themselves the “Yoga Pants Parade”:
Sorrentino said he had received death threats, equal to those he had received being an openly gay man.
You would think someone who had been the victim of hate speech would be aware of the impact, surely? Obviously not.
Long live yoga pants!
