South Africa doesn’t really offer one the chance to be a potato chip snob.
Sure we have stacks of Pringles and maybe, just maybe, packets of Woolies kettle chips that cut it, but we definitely don’t have a local brewery making their own chips to go hand-in-hand with its beer (yet).
But Sweden does.
Their local, St. Erik’s brewery has created the perfect chip to eat while you drink their signature brews.
Launched recently, the chips apparently fully complement their beer and each chip includes rare Nordic ingredients such as “matsutake mushrooms, truffle seaweed, India Pale Ale wort, as well as dill, onion and Ammärnas-region almond potatoes which are only grown on a certain hillside in certain dirt,” according to Food and Wine.
But don’t expect to get offered a bowl or a bagful – a box of five individual chips will set you back $56 – or R785.
Casual:
The chips were created by chef Pi Le, and only 100 boxes of them were made available – and they sold out quickly.
Let’s take a bet how quickly it will take for a local brewery to follow suit? After all, they need some way to stand out from the rest and they could probably use the help the head chef from one of these restaurants.
