Aside from the wine and the mountains, Cape Town can easily be given props for its fresh fish.
If you have your doubts, pop down to the harbours in either Hout Bay or Kalk Bay on a Saturday morning and take a strong whiff.
Or you can just visit any Cape Town Fish Market, who have made their name by serving the freshest fish of the lot.
Douw Krugmann was one such person who recognised the potential of the Cape’s access to seafood, and purchased a fresh fish retail store at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront back in 1997.
He then devised a restaurant concept which comprised of a unique recipe of mixed elements.
Today, Cape Town Fish Market’s menu still retains its fresh fish mission and offers a combination of South African and Japanese dishes:
There’s the old favourite fish and chips, the chic fresh oysters, the unusual Prawn & Avocado salad, the delectable Salmon Teriyaki and the classic seafood curry.
The seafood platters come highly recommended and you can even pick your own ingredients from the fresh seafood displayed on ice.
For those who aren’t that partial to seafood, there is also a choice of meat & poultry as well as a number of vegetarian dishes.
The coolest part of any CTFM is definitely their conveyor belt which, laden with the freshest sushi, was the first of its kind in South Africa. Promise.
Thankfully, you don’t need to break the bank to get involved with CTFM all the time. Most days of the week, CTFM offers deals that are so worth it that it helps you mindlessly plan what you are going to eat on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Like a boss:
If you have been an avid CTFM fan forever, then take note: they do end-of-the-year functions, too, and you can invite your whole work family to be a part of your joy.
And try not eat too much sushi tonight.
