I’m sure there are communities and gatherings and events that would love to have Steve Hofmeyr in attendance, like the opening of THIS settlement in the Eastern Cape.
As for the rest of the world – well, we’re starting to grow tired with the nonsense that pours from his mouth.
We’ve seen the National Arts Festival show him the door (HERE), and we’ve even seen a restaurant in the Netherlands decide that he wouldn’t make for the ideal guest (HERE).
Now it’s our turn down south, with this from Business Live:
The Cape Town Press Club‚ after an “outcry from reporters”‚ has called off a talk controversial entertainer Steve Hofmeyr was to give it on “the state of the South African nation”.
Its secretary-general‚ Donwald Pressly‚ said simply: “The committee of the Cape Town Press Club have decided to cancel the event with Steve Hofmeyr on Friday.”
The club’s co-chair, Joylene van Wyk, told TMG Digital on Wednesday that it had noted the outrage about him appearing.
Journalist Andi Makinana seemed to have caused the backlash with her tweet on Wednesday: “The Cape Town Press Club will host Steve Hofmeyr this Friday where he will talk about the state of the South African nation”.
Here’s that tweet:
Turns out the Cape Town Press Club may have known the general public wouldn’t approve:
The event had not been listed on the club’s website but Makinana said she had been made aware of the planned talk by a press alert e-mailed by the club, of which she is a member.
I think, when it comes to the state of the nation, there are people I’d rather hear offer insight than Steve Hofmeyr.
