Johannesburg is notorious for its egotistical gym bunnies who frequently cause shit to bait others into a fight – but during one of the more recent public occurrences, no one is too sure what the exact story is.
At the Sounds Like Summer Heritage Day party on Saturday, a group of partygoers got into a scuffle with the bouncers when they were asked to leave the party. According to the Sounds Like Summer organisers, the group is notorious for causing trouble at events and nightclubs.
Here’s one video of the incident…
…and here’s another:
Nothing like a Tracy Chapman remix to get the blood pumping.
A few of the people who were involved in the brawl were taken to ICU – Captain Elliot Tshivhase confirmed the incident:
About eight people sustained stab wounds when a fight ensued during the [The Sounds Like Summer] festival at the James & Ethel Gray Park.
Charges were laid by a partygoer and then later withdrawn without any given reason. Suspicious, no?
Many eyewitnesses of the incident took to the event’s Facebook page to offer their account, slamming the bouncers for using such force when they are there to protect, not to retaliate. One person said:
To the people that witness and felt as helpless as I did, this is something I hope can actually make a change and bring awareness against the people that are supposed to look after us, when in actual fact they abuse their authority and position of power.
The Olympus security company not only threw the first punch but they brutally kicked, pushed and punched both people part of the fight and those who tried to break it up. In fairness those who were involved were not in the right either but they weren’t wearing the uniform that I believe holds them accountable, the guys wearing Olympus protection security uniforms are meant to be there to protect and prevent brutal attacks but they were the very people that escalated it.
Here’s another’s account:
You almost cost me my friends and boyfriend’s lives you pieces of utter sh*t! There were no glass bottles anywhere and if I remember correctly it was your head of security who threw the first punch because of course he must show everyone that he is in charge and not once was anyone told to leave the premises so that alone is a hunch of bullsh*t ! I’m glad he got knocked the f*ck down it deserves him right however he definitely was not stabbed in the head unlike my friend who was stabbed in the back…You should be protecting the people there not beating them up to a pulp!
Another partygoer kept it simple:
Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.
This was in response to the event organiser’s statement:
Can I just ask: How the hell were people stabbed and by whom?
