Recently I have unwittingly become a nervous passenger, and I feel awful for anyone who is in the driver’s seat. Then I realised that videos like the one below might be having a minor affect on my psyche.
The latest horror shot doing the rounds involves two taxis. A dashcam captures a taxi overtaking a vehicle illegally, before swerving out of control into oncoming traffic.
I mean, the guy overtakes on the left hand side? What even is that?
You can clearly see one person being thrown from a vehicle, although it is not clear exactly which part of SA the footage is from.
According to Arrive Alive, nearly 650 accidents involving minibus taxis have occurred in the country since 2013.
That’s not that many compared to the alarming road-related deaths we have, but it’s still averaging around 200 a year and involves vehicles that transport large numbers of people at once.
