GPS satnavs are kind of losing their way in the ever-advancing tech world.
Many people rather rely on their phone to navigate their way, and even Uber drivers have an iPhone setup to take you on the cheapest route possible.
If you have a scooter, you will know that you can’t use either a phone or a satnav, at least not without any difficulty.
If you get lost, you have to stop on the side of the road to get your phone out so you can check where in the world you are. Worse still is having to ask someone for directions – what is this, 2005?
It’s a mission – and can be especially dangerous if that need for assistance occurs when you have to choose a highway off-ramp. Uh uh.
So TomTom created a device to combat this issue, and it’s actually really cute.
It’s a circular satnav designed to complement your scooter, which means you will never get lost driving around on your Vespa – and you’ll look pretty stylish, too.
Here’s how it works, according to Gizmodo:
The compact VIO doesn’t work as a standalone GPS navigator. It instead relies on a smartphone for its brain, wirelessly connecting to the TomTom mobile app and serving as more of an auxiliary touchscreen display.
But while it lacks its own processor and other standalone electronics, it does contain additional GPS hardware of for improved location tracking.
It’s also waterproof, comes with a bunch of coloured housings to help it match your scooter and can even be operated with gloves while you’re riding.
…and you know how cold it gets on a Vespa during those early winter mornings.
While the satnav provides turn-by-turn directions and visual warnings if you’re speeding, it also displays information about incoming calls. You, the rider, can wear a connected Bluetooth headset to answer or ignore them.
As if riding around on a Vespa needed to get any cooler…
