Sigh.
South Africa’s nuclear deal truly is terrifying – and no, the reason isn’t just environmental anymore. Rather, it is predicted that the Zupta’s nuclear deal with Russia will bankrupt the country.
Earlier this week a video on the matter was shared by Biznews, who introduced it with the following:
Resistance to the plan is gaining momentum with two NGOs yesterday finalising their answering affidavit in a court action against the Government. They also joined with the spectacularly successful anti-e tolls movement OUTA to produce the embedded video which unpacks the realities of what the Zuma Administration wants to visit upon South Africa.
You can read the full transcript of the video HERE.
From influencing the media, to massively delayed legal responses, the government is doing everything in its power to ensure the deal makes its way through.
People who realise the damaging effects are angry – and have taken to Twitter to voice opinions:
Today, it was revealed by two South African newspapers that not only had Phumzile Tshelane‚ the head of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation‚ said a nuclear tender was open to all bidders prepared to manufacture locally and share technology (Sowetan) – but that the son of Zuma’s friend, Vivian Reddy, had already won the tender (Mail & Guardian).
This was according to Times Live. They also pulled an snippet from the M&G:
Details of the R171-million contract for the procurement of the nuclear build programme management system emerged after an innocuous-looking entry appeared on the department of energy’s website‚” the newspaper said.
Shantan Reddy’s company‚ according to the M&G‚ is listed under the category of “awarded bids”.
And now? What are we actually going to do about all this?
We say go green (HERE), but those at the top seem more interested with lining their own pockets.
