That picture above has nothing at all to do with this story, but I think it needs to be seen by a wider audience.
I’m sure your French bulldog is the cutest, ‘most bestest’ dog in the whole world, and it definitely loves being carted around in your handbag, but over in Australia they do things a little differently.
Meet Baron, reportedly the country’s biggest dog, who weighs in at 113 kilograms. The English mastiff is only two years old as well, although he’s already dwarfing handlers Mark and Dorothy York.
Here’s the Daily Telegraph:
“Baron is the biggest dog in Australia but not the tallest as great danes are taller,” Mr York said.
“He is still growing and will grow until he is nearly four-years-old.
“Baron, who was adopted as a 18-month-old from Queensland, can still grow until he is four and probably beat the heaviest dog we know, an US-based mastiff who weighs 127.5kg”…
Baron’s measurements are impressive: In horse terms, he is 9.5 hands tall but when he stands on his rear legs is a towering 201cm (6 foot 6 inches).
The dog, who visits a chiropractor regularly, has a 127 cm chest (50 inches) and a 86.36 cm neck (34 inches).
Before you fall in love with the pooch bear this in mind – the owners say Baron is a massive snorer.
In his defence, he’s also very laid-back and gets on well with other animals.
While we’re here, how about a little known fact about French bulldogs? I don’t quote Wikipedia often but I’ll make an exception below:
…many French bulldog stud dogs are incapable of naturally breeding. This is because French Bulldogs have very slim hips, making the male unable to mount the female to reproduce naturally. Typically, breeders must undertake artificial insemination of female dogs.
