I’m sure for some of you this list would be rather short – number one, arriving.
That wasn’t an option provided for the 12 000 office workers from around South Africa who took part in a recent poll, but I’m sure the other gripes will resonate pretty close to home.
Because it’s a Monday and we’re all hanging on by a thread I’ll start with the positives, things people valued as the most important in the workplace.
This below from BusinessTech:
Office likes
- Access to good tea and coffee – 95%
- Security – 91%
- A healthy environment – 87%
- Natural light – 85%
- Greenery – 71%
- Canteens – 65%
- Comfortable chairs – 52%
I like that we’re keeping it simple, and the number one ‘liked’ thing is the fuel required to help us deal with co-workers. We’ll allow for a little boast here and say our offices have all of the above comfortably ticked off – that, and if we want a coffee (or anything else delivered) we can order it through an app (HERE).
And now for the bit you’ve all been waiting for, what people hate the most:
Office peeves
- Loud colleagues – 88%
- Colleagues who “smelled up the place’ – 76%
- Unbearable bosses – 66%
- Lack of privacy – 50%
- Dreary office spaces
- Long meetings
- Dress codes
- Working hours
Yup, I think those are peeves many people can relate to.
Let’s try and end off on a high, a look at what respondents said was the best thing about the workplace:
…the social aspect of meeting new people and becoming friends with certain colleagues was the best thing about the workplaces according to 80% of respondents.
Also favourable was the ‘learning and personal development’ that the workplaces offered (61%).
Filling out the remaining office positives was ‘stimulation’, ‘sense of worth’ and ‘contribution to society.’
Any of that help with the Monday blues? Hey, we can only do so much…
