Remember Spud? You know, those Adrian Mole-esque South African books based on author John van de Ruit’s time spent at Michaelhouse? Well, when its international success saw it turned into a movie franchise, boy did South Africa get excited.
But get this – the dude who played the leading role of John ‘Spud’ Milton is kind of an international hit now.
Although South African-born, Troye Sivan grew up in Perth, Australia and just landed the cover feature of US fashion mag, V.
So how did he do it, other than starring in all three Spud movies?
Well, Troye is a YouTube personality (he has a Vevo account), an actor, a model, and a singer. Talented guy, huh?
Here’s the cover, alongside Instagram star and model, Taylor Hill – who is getting more than her fair share of covers this month.
Openly gay, Troye’s fans and critics applauded him on his ability to diversify his looks – and they only had love to give. Here’s another shot:
Speaking about his fame in the mag, he said:
The fact that everything is happening the way it is. It sends me into giggles. Like, the fact that I woke up last week and was like, ‘Oh, I just need to quickly fly across the country to do a photoshoot with Mario Testino and then fly back to play a show.’ I don’t know how else to process it but to laugh. Sometimes it feels like I’m in Zoolander. I went to the Billboard Awards, I was backstage, and Rihanna just casually walked by. I was like, ‘What the f*ck?’ Hilarious.
Pretty sweet. I mean, even though he is basically Australian, it’s cool that we can claim at least two years of his life.
