Back in the day, 2002 to be exact, video tapes were still around. That’s what made the movie The Ring so frightening, because everyone had a childhood sports match or birthday recording ready for the VCR somewhere in the house.
They then followed up with The Ring 2 in 2005, although that effort didn’t drum up as much interest as the original.
Video tapes are pretty much obsolete in 2016 (sorry older folks), which means an updated redo needs something of a shake-up.
Here’s what the official trailer on YouTube has to say:
A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…
Of course it starts with an email…
I guess nowadays the video would be shared via WhatsApp, but if your phone goes ping after watching this trailer it’s probably just THIS being sent your way.
I’m sure Rings is going to rattle a few cages, but there’s no way it can compare to the horrors of Stephen King’s clown shocker, It.
Anyone else sleep with the lights on well past the age they should have?
