Tsk tsk, Ivanka.
Before she was hit with a whole lot of shade, receiving that letter from some indie jewellery designers, Ivanka was slapped with a lawsuit in June.
Like Gavin Rajah knocking off designers’ dresses, she has clearly copied Italian footwear brand Aquazzura’s shoes for her own collection – and they have no time for it.
But neither does Ivanka.
She hit back, not only filing for the case to be dismissed, but also filing a document denying any wrongdoing. In the case of the uncanny similarities between shoe designs, she argued that she hasn’t engaged in any “infringement…, unfair competition or deceptive trade practices.”
Pffffffffft – what do you think?
Sure, Ivanka’s range, created with American shoemaker Marc Fisher, does not have the same elegance as the Italian brand, but there are way too many similarities to ignore.
The two have continually denied that there’s any form of copying – the word “deny” appears 65 times in her court document and claims the lawsuit is “without merit” and “aimed at generating publicity.”
Golly gosh. I mean, the U.S. is pretty stern when it comes to copyright laws, so it will be interesting to see how this case against Ivanka plays out.
Not only did Christian Louboutin win the right to his red soles in 2012, but a few years ago Gucci was awarded nearly $5 million in a case against Marc Fisher for a copycat design by Guess.
Hmm, maybe it’s Marc Fisher who is the Gavin Rajah of the States.
