Let’s make one thing clear from the start, this will not be a Netflix and Chill favourite.
The issue of sexual assault on American campuses was once again brought to the fore by The Hunting Ground, a jarring documentary that showed how many universities sweep sexual abuse and rape allegations under the carpet to avoid tainting their reputation.
Of course we’ve seen the #RUReferenceList grabbing headlines here at home this year (HERE), and over in the U.S. Netflix are set to air a new documentary that is making waves on September 23.
More about Audrie & Daisy from HighSnobiety:
[It’s] a true-crime analysis of two recent, controversial cases of assault that promises to be just as much of a thought-provoking, hypnotic thriller.
The documentary tells the stories of two strikingly similar and devastating cases of sexual assault that occurred three years ago. Daisy Coleman of Missouri and Audrie Pott of California were both victims of violence at the hands of their high school peers, but both found an even greater trial in the aftermath of these assaults…
Harassment both in-school and out of school threatened to destroy their lives, and the subsequent media frenzy eliminated any hope of privacy and a normal teenage life. Even the online hacking association Anonymous became involved, resulting in one of the most talked-about cases of assault in recent memory.
Sometimes it’s nice to sit down and watch some light entertainment before calling it a night, but every now and again you need to watch something that makes for seriously uncomfortable viewing.
Well, you know where to start…
