It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Kardashian family has plenty of influence. Whatever new “trend” they try out, whether it be the latest food or, in this case, some “medical” procedure, their followers listen.
So Khloe Kardashian recently recommended putting Vitamin E on your vagina. This prompted bloggers to highlight the sisters’ previous vagina-related medical “advice”, concerning a boutique radiofrequency vaginal treatment called ThermiVa.
To make things worse, the sisters’ dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer called the procedure a “transformative technology for treating a multitude of vaginal issues.”
And even more so, on Khloe’s talk show, Botched plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow said this:
It works. It shrinks the inside and it basically … re-virginizes [sic] you. It’s like a face-lift of the vagina, kind of.
This only prompted various outlets to claim that the practice was ‘doctor approved’. But what are the real doctors saying?
Apparently, they’re not impressed. Although the procedure is cleared by the FDA, it isn’t approved.
Here’s how it works – according to The Daily Beast:
The device is essentially a wand that dermatologists can insert into the vaginal canal to heat tissue, theoretically stimulate collagen production and alleviate “vulvovaginal laxity.” To try it, you’ll need a Kardashian-sized bank account because a full set of treatments can cost over $3,000.
Sounds delicious.
But when OB/GYN and writer Dr. Jennifer Gunter got involved, she told The Daily Beast, there have been “zero long-term studies and zero studies on non-menopausal women.” Then she made this point:
Why would a young woman who has never had kids be concerned about her vagina size?
The real target market for the procedure is actually those older than the Kardashian followers – and older than the Kardashians themselves. You see, there’s no hard evidence to prove the procedure does anything for your vagina, other than making it look a little nicer. And who cares about that?
[I know many women do care, but they shouldn’t. Like the rest of your body, it’s yours.]
So instead of spending all that cash on something that doesn’t actually matter, you should go to the experts at Sleep Renewal and do some real rejuvenation, like working on your sleep issues.
