It’s still early days – and there’s a long, long way to go – but it looks like the DA might be rather pleased come the final results of yesterday’s municipal elections.
That’s because their numbers are impressive across many of the major regions, although there are millions of votes still to be counted and DA supporters shouldn’t yet start dancing in the streets.
News24 has a fantastic live results section (HERE), and at the time of writing (8AM), here’s how the DA was faring in the aforementioned areas:
A few snippets from News24’s live coverage that paint a pretty picture for the party in blue:
News24’s Thulani Gqirana reports the DA are leading the ANC in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Almost all the voting stations in Nelson Mandela Bay were finished counting, IEC regional supervisor Crosby Bacela said.
“Around 90% to 95% have been counted. But only 33% have been successfully captured here,” he said.
They still had to capture around 67% of the results, which would take a bit of time…
The DA claimed on Thursday morning that it has retained the Midvaal municipality in Gauteng.
According to the latest count, with 58% of voting stations counted, the DA is currently at 50.49%. The ANC is at 39.57%, while the EFF is at 5.98%. The Freedom Front Plus follows behind with 3.48%.
Of course one shouldn’t lose sight of the bigger picture – here’s what it looks like if all the votes around the country are tallied:
And a map of who holds which areas:
Still, one must crawl before they can walk, and for the DA to contest as fiercely as they are in those all important areas points to a strengthening party.
