It’s the ultimate sign that a start-up has made it, so when Unilever, the world’s biggest conglomerate of consumer goods, offered to buy online shaving service Dollar Shave Club, the CEO couldn’t have been happier.
The announcement was made on Tuesday night and, although no financial terms were disclosed to the public, a source close to the deal suggested Unilever UK will be paying $1 billion in cash for the Cali-based business. Bling bling.
Founder and CEO Michael Dubin will continue to run the company, which will “operate its direct-to-consumer razor business as an independent entity,” according to Fortune.
The cash influx will help the company expand into other areas (it’s only in three countries at the moment) and improve distribution markets.
