Sometimes tensions simmer just beneath the surface, and other times they boil over into violent confrontations.
Case in point the U.S. right now, where the police shot and killed at both Baton Rouge and Dallas is an indicator of the growing distrust in law enforcement.
We’ve shown you more videos of police shooting unarmed black men that I care to mention, but if you follow the news I’m sure you’ve seen your fair share too.
This one might just push you over the edge though, because it’s pretty much impossible to put your arms up any higher than those of Charles Kinsey.
The video itself offers a decent explanation.
Here’s Heavy with the North Miami Police statement:
There is preliminary information that North Miami Police Officers were dispatched to the scene after a 911 call was received of an armed male suspect threatening suicide. Arriving officers attempted to negotiate with two men on the scene, one of whom was later identified as suffering from autism. The other man was later identified as an employee of an assisted living facility. At some point during the on-scene negotiation, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon, striking the employee.
Just for a second place yourself in Charles’ shoes, and imagine the fear that comes with knowing you literally could not have done anything to avoid being shot.
Then imagine you’re a black American man, guilty of no offence, who is approached by law enforcement in the U.S.
Starting to understand where that fear and distrust stems from?
