Ag poor Jacob hey, can’t South Africans just cut this man some slack?
First Zapiro plonked a shower on his head and everyone laughed, and then Brett Murray painted ‘The Spear’ and all hell broke loose.
Such ridicule, such embarrassment, and all he received in return was R246 million worth of renovations to his Nkandla homestead.
And whatever money he made off that secret nuclear deal with Russia, and…well, you get the drift.
Then Ayanda Mabulu comes along and takes painting the president to the next level – I hope you’re seated, because feast your eyes on this (NSFW) piece of art:
Why yes, that is JZ licking the anus of Atul Gupta – how very perceptive of you.
And what do we mean by sex jet? Let’s reverse a little and take in that painting in its entirety:
I’m no expert on what I believe is called rimming, or tossing the salad, but judging by the look on Atul’s face JZ knows what he is doing.
There are many who might say the Guptas need a good tongue-lashing, but I’m not sure this is what they had in mind.
Anyway they do look awfully cosy – may I suggest they give something like THIS a go, or maybe Ayanda himself wants to incorporate one into his next painting?
More from TimesLive:
“The work is really aimed at the masters who are controlling our leader. And the Guptas are one of those masters. It’s not personal because it goes beyond the president‚” Mabulu told Culture Review Magazine in an interview.
The magazine says for Mabulu‚ the work is not personal against Zuma but that the artist “cannot sit aside and mask what is happening by ‘being metaphorical’ in the approach to his work”…
“Why must I hide the truth when it is as blatant as the sun‚” Mabulu says in response to a question about his use of sexual scenarios in depicting the political leadership of the country.
Of course people became worked up about the painting – a few tweets to illustrate the point:
But wait, there’s more – Mabulu painted a second picture too, which also hangs on exhibition at Constitutional Hill:
Shots fired.
We should be thankful that we live in a country where artists can express themselves and not fear being locked up in jail, but we should be somewhat saddened that we ware governed by a leader who is so open to ridicule such as this.
Hope I didn’t spoil your morning appetite but hey, happy Hump Day.
