Euro 2016 has, despite the success of Iceland and Wales, been a rather disappointing tournament.
That stems largely from the new 24-team format, meaning a team like Portugal qualified for the second round having drawn all three of their group matches.
They certainly made the most of that chance, lifting the title last night despite the dramatic early exit of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Real Madrid superstar was involved in a collision with Dimitri Payet, which meant he was taken off midway through the first half. As he lay on the ground, knowing that his tournament was over, he was viciously attacked by a moth.

In the moments that followed Twitter went into overdrive, with parody accounts popping up at a rapid rate:
Seriously, just look at how many Twitter accounts you find if you search ‘Ronaldo Moth’ this morning (HERE).
Some of the moth jokes doing the rounds:
Even Ricky Gervais got in on the act:
I suppose all is well that ends well, and having hoisted the trophy I’m sure Ronaldo won’t be all that bothered by moths and other such nuisances.
