Can you remember the first time you logged into Facebook? After entering your details, you ended up on a page that looks very different to their current layout.
There wasn’t even such a thing as a “feed” or “wall”.
The world’s largest social network, Facebook has been around since 2004, although most of the people I know in South Africa logged on for the first time around 2006/7. Since then, everything Facebook has done has been to ensure that users keep coming back.
There have been algorithm tweaks, cover photo introductions, events, pages, and now live streaming capabilities.
And Facebook wants more.
A recent blog post from Facebook executive Adam Mosseri, says:
Our success is built on getting people the stories that matter to them most. If you could look through thousands of stories every day and choose the 10 that were most important to you, which would they be? The answer should be your News Feed.
So how good is your memory? Here are a few screenshots of Facebook layouts throughout the years:
The Original Facebook Group Page, 2004. Before people realized how awesome pictures are.
Facebook Profile Page, 2007. Every profile update still had to begin with “is,” forcing you to talk about yourself in the third person.
Facebook Profile Page, 2010. Facebook starts to get pretty.
