As the majority of the UK’s population voted to leave the European Union, the effects of their naivety have left a lot of people put out.
From expats who are unsure of their future, to countries affected by the plummeting pound, those who didn’t even know what “EU” meant really shook the modern world in one swift decision.
So how exactly did it affect the world’s richest 400 people? The billionaires lost 3.2 percent of their wealth. Sure, that isn’t a lot, but when that small percentage equals $3.9 trillion you know shit went down. Here’s Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index:
While around nine dropped over $1 billion, including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezo, and Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor (the wealthiest person in the UK), Europe’s richest person Amancio Ortega lost more than $6 billion.
He is a Spanish business magnate, founder and chairman of Inditex fashion group, best known for its chain of Zara clothing and accessories retail shops.
Luckily, there’s always the Lotto to add a little more wealth to your pocket. Wednesday night’s Powerball is going for $222 million (R3.4 billion) and while it isn’t a billion dollars, it’s well worth the try.
