That unfinished piece of highway that’s supposed to be connected to the N1 – the one every tourist laughs at when they visit out shores – may soon have more of a purpose than posing as an iconic stuff up in the City of Cape Town.
First constructed back in 1977, the building ceased when builders ran out of money and since then nothing has really been done about it – other than fashion shoots, movies scenes, and weird tourists thinking it’s an attraction of sorts.
Back in 2004, the bridge problem was put to UCT students, who were asked to do something with it – and not one out of the 600 suggested completing it.
Now, the same question has been put to prospective investors and developers, along with two pre-conditions, according to Patricia De Lille:
The one is that any developer must include the completion of those bridges and connect them to help us with the congestion in the city. The second one is that part of that land builds affordable housing for people.
Wow, Reclaim the City must really be getting their message through.
