A petrol station attendant in Limpopo was attacked and beaten by two men over the weekend, only escaping further injuries thanks to the efforts of a third man.
As the video circulated on social media many commented that the attack was racially motivated, although here’s what we do know according to eNCA:
Three men arrived at a Sasol petrol station just before midnight on Saturday in a red vehicle.
The footage shows the attendant, identified as Johannes Monyela, having a conversation with one of the passengers after which another passenger exits the vehicle and starts to beat Monyela.
The driver tries to stop the violent confrontation.
Monyela seeks refuge in the staff’ change room but the two men follow him and the attack continues.
According to reports, the two suspects have appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on charges of assault and were released on bail.
Whatever the reason for the attack, and there can be none that justify behaviour like this, let’s hope the suspects are made to pay for their actions.
