If Euro 2016 has taught us anything it’s that the Irish fans are the best in the world (HERE), but it has also taught us what a petulant sore loser Cristiano Ronaldo can be.
From belittling Iceland following their drawn encounter with Portugal, through to his missed penalty against Austria, Ronaldo has once again shown why it is so much easier to regard Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer on the planet.
The Argentinian maestro became his country’s all-time leading scorer with an absolute belter of a free-kick last night in the Copa America semi-final, helping his team to a 4-0 win.
First let’s see that free-kick, and I think you can excuse the commentator for being just a tad excited:
Huffington Post were rather enamoured with the man, having this to say:
Lionel Messi is the best at playing soccer…
Your local art museum should display a framed TV playing the goal on loop. It’s beautiful, but also dangerous. After Messi’s perfect free-kick goal, from this post forward, further free-kick goals we watch will, to our disappointment, lack the awe and surprise.
But just until Messi eventually tops this…
Free-kick goals before this one were not perfect. Messi’s is.
Cristiano may have surpassed Messi in terms of goal-scoring these past few seasons, but for me and many others there really is no comparison between the two.
