There’s nothing like sitting down for an entire day and listening to people pace about on a stage, impressing upon you just how wise and wonderful they really are.
The term ‘thought leader’ though, you really have to love all these buzzwords we come up with.
Of course it’s a Canadian that has shown just how silly it’s all become, with the AV Club unpacking his performance as such:
This is a profoundly Canadian piece of comedy. It is subtle, quiet, and eminently polite, but the satirical undercurrent is devastating. The joke is that Kelly’s character is an empty vessel with nothing to say and an impressive, reassuring way of saying it.
Here’s the YouTube description:
Self proclaimed “thought leader,” Pat Kelly gives his talk on “thought leadership” at the annual This Is That Talks in Whistler, B.C. In the seminar, Kelly covers: How to talk with your hands, how to get a standing ovation, and how to inspire people by saying nothing at all.
Go ahead and enjoy this piss take, it really is well done.
