If you’re a red-blooded male then owning the Playboy Mansion may well be something of a dream come true, so who’s the rich old bloke who bought it then?
Well the first thing you should know about Daren Metropoulos (on the left in that picture above) is that he is 32 years old, which means the infamous Playboy party legacy may be in pretty good hands.
Depending on who you ask the cost of the mansion was between $100 and $200 million, which goes well with the $18 million mansion that Daren owns next door. The plan, you see, is to join the two together and form a 7,3 acre compound that will be the envy of Los Angeles.
Let’s learn a few things about Daren courtesy of Heavy:
His father is a billionaire
Metropoulos’ father is C. Dean Metropoloous, 70, who Forbes estimates has a new worth of $2.4 billion. He’s credited with bringing Hostess back from the dead with private equity firm Apollo Global…
Hostess isn’t the only brand he’s helped revive. He also bought – then sold – brands like Bumble Bee tuna, Chef Boyardee, Pam cooking spray and Pabst Brewing. Pabst alone brought him an estimated $750 million.
It’s nice when Dad has a little cash to throw around, I guess.
He has to live with Hef
Metropoulos will have to live with Hugh Hefner, 90, for as long as Hef is still alive…whoever buys it has to agree to let Hefner live in it for the rest of his life. Metropoulos did agree to let Hef stay.
I can think of worse housemates to live with, and I’m pretty sure Hef isn’t going to eat your leftover pizza after coming home from a big night out. You know who you are.
He previously hosted a party at the Mansion
Since he’s neighbours with Hefner and the Playboy Mansion, Metropolous hosted a party there in 2012 to celebrate Snoop Dogg’s 41st birthday party when his family still owned Pabst.
Some more details on the Mansion from the Guardian:
The mansion, which Playboy Enterprises bought for just over $1m in 1971, boasts …12 bedrooms, a wine cellar, home theater, separate game house, gym, tennis court, a swimming pool “with a large, cave-like grotto” and, of course, an official zoo license and pet cemetery…
Playboy reporters found blueprints that showed tunnels built from the mansion to the homes of celebrities including Jack Nicholson and Kirk Douglas.
Hefner said in 2011 that he paid young women living at the mansion with whom he was sexually involved a $1,000-a-week allowance in cash and held them to a 9pm curfew.
One of Hefner’s ex-girlfriends, Izabella St James, wrote in her book Bunny Tales about the mansion’s dirty carpets and stained mattresses.
With daddy’s billions I’m sure Daren can afford to change the odd mattress here and there, although he’ll have to speak to Hef about that 9pm curfew.
