I remember back in the day, when my grandfather was still alive, looking at him and wondering how he managed to hitch his pants up so high.
The joke was always that he would get a rash under his arm pits, and we used to quip that now and again he should pull his socks down a touch and give his knees a little sun.
Bless his long cotton socks, but for sheer cool factor it’s tough to compete with these four hip-hop grandpas from Kenya.
Bear with us – here’s the lowdown from OkayAfrica:
This [is] “Kabangu,” a conceptual editorial that spotlights four muscular grandpas who do double-duty as hip-hop aficionados and security guards in Kariobangi, one of Nairobi’s settlements.
As true hip-hop heads, they’ve been following the evolution of the music genre since the 80s. The men have been teaming up to mentor aspiring artists looking to spit bars in the hip-hop industry. Honouring the five elements of the genre: MCing, DJing, breakdancing, graffiti and knowledge—the eccentric grandpa collective instill in their juniors the importance of principles such as peace, equality, prosperity and social justice.
Ready to see the funkiest grandpas I’ve ever come across? Of course you are…
Style for days and the attitude to boot – go on with your bad selves.
Cool it, no one is saying your dear grandpappie ain’t super fly too OK.
