Sure, I haven’t watched the movie as only the trailer is out, but trust Hollywood to take an absolute disaster and turn it into a love / American-hero-out-saving-the-day story.
In September, we will all get to watch Deepwater Horizon, a dramatic inside look at the 2010 BP oil rig explosion that has left the Gulf of Mexico in a shocking state.
The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Kate Hudson, and will tell the story of the rig’s crew fighting to survive after the violent blast that ultimately resulted in the largest accidental marine oil spill in history. Here’s the synopsis:
On April 20th, 2010, one of the world’s largest man-made disasters occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), this story honours the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.
How about a movie on who fucked up and why they were drilling so deep? How the greed of the oil industry put the very men risking their lives in even more danger? How the oil spill has been described as the worst environmental disaster ever, and how the clean up only worsened the effects?
Or how BP claimed the cleanup was completed in 2014 when there is still a large amount of oil still visible.
Nope, let’s talk about the heroes.
Man, oh, man. Here’s the dramatic trailer:
