It must be tough married to Number One, competition for some alone time with your dear husband rather stiff.
To soften the blow there’s always the joy of being driven around in absolute luxury, JZ’s wives having 10 vehicles (worth around R9 million in total) bought for them between 2013 and now.
This was today confirmed by Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko, who defended the decision by saying they were needed “to provide comprehensive protection of VIP spouses”.
The vehicles included Range Rover SUVs, two Land Rover Discovery SUVs and five Audi SUVs and sedans. Below from TimesLive:
The purchase of luxury cars for Cabinet ministers themselves has been frowned on by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan‚ who has appealed for modest purchases as part of a general belt-tightening required by government in order for it to achieve its fiscal consolidation targets.
The continued purchase of these luxury cars has been possible because of a delay of over five years in finalising the ministerial handbook‚ which lays down what ministers are allowed in terms of vehicles‚ travel and accommodation.
Nothing like a delay to speed up a little splurge before the purse strings are tightened.
Hey, here’s a question for that school caught in the middle of the Zuma exam controversy (HERE):
If Jacob Zuma’s wives were not transported around in 10 luxury vehicles, how many understaffed police stations could afford to employ extra officers?
I would say send your answers in via the post but they probably wouldn’t reach us.
