It seems ’tis the season to break some pizza records.
Leave it up to Naples to set the bar for the world’s longest pizza. With the help of more than 200 chefs who rolled out and cooked the mile-long margherita (does not one understand how inspirational The Rotherham is?), they smashed the last record of just 1 595.45m.
Set along the waterfront, chefs from all over the world spent most of Wednesday assembling the pizza from raw ingredients – consisting of 2 000kg of flour, 1 600kg of tomatoes, 2 000kg of mozzarella cheese, 200 litres of oil and 30kg of basil.
It was then popped into five custom-made motorised ovens.
Organised to promote Italy’s bid to have the art of Neapolitan pizza-making recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s heritage, it’s kinda weird they invited chefs from all over the world. I was wonder if Big Cheese was there.
