Everyone loves a scandal involving some mighty rich folk, and here in South Africa they don’t really come much richer than Tokyo Sexwale.
Last week we brought you THIS story, which talked about the ongoing court battle between a mega-wealthy local businessman and his estranged wife.
Readers were quick to point out who the respective parties involved were, and now it has been revealed that the estranged wife has come out tops in her bid to gain access to company financial records.
Doing so will help her in her bid to land a massive divorce settlement, but how can we be so sure it’s Judy and Tokyo who are doing battle?
Well how about this from TimesLive:
The woman’s lawyer, Beverley Clark, said this victory was “an enormous relief” following what she believed was “a very unequal contest between [her client who has little money] and a big company with a seemingly endless war chest with which to litigate”.
Then this from back in 2013 on Sunday World:
Judy Sexwale’s lawyer, Beverley Clark, says: “Certainly, Judy would rather that their divorce had been handled in an entirely discreet and dignified manner, but this has unfortunately proved impossible, as her husband is not paying her any maintenance, or willing to discuss any reasonable sort of settlement in order to bring the matter to finality, as she would like to do.
Then there’s this from that bastion of great journalism ANN7:
Mvelaphanda Holdings, a company in which the Sexwale’s family trust, TJS Family Trust, owns 25% shares has filed papers in the Constitutional Court to stop Judy Sexwale, the wife of former human settlements minister Tokyo Sexwale, from accessing its financial statements.
Cat well and truly out the bag on this one.
We’ve also had a little birdy in our ear telling us that Tokyo’s Clifton House has been sold by Seeff for around R30 million. Here’s News24 back in 2013:
Jean-Yves Ollivier, a French businessman and good friend of sacked housing minister Tokyo Sexwale, has turned to the Cape Town High Court to compel Sexwale to move out of a R100m Clifton house that he once gave to his wife Judy as a Christmas present.
