The screenshot has become part and parcel of proving your point these days. Whatsapp argument, Google the answer, screenshot and send to other parties while feeling smug – we’ve all seen it before.
Then meet Virginia congressional candidate Mike Webb, who has had himself a real shocker after screengrabbing a map with the intent of calling out a rival candidate. Webb claimed he received a prank call about a job offer, using the area’s dialling code to try and lock down who it may have been.
Good sleuthing skills, except let’s have a look at the other tabs he had open at the time:
I think we all know the internet well enough to be sure that ‘Ivone Sexy Amateur’ and ‘Layla Rivera Tight Booty’ aren’t work related.
In a classic sleazeball politician move he tried to explain it by saying he was testing a conspiracy theory. Here’s Fox:
“Curious by nature, I wanted to test the suggestion that somehow, lurking out in the pornographic world there is some evil operator waiting for the one in a gazillion chance that a candidate for federal office would go to that particular website and thereby be infected with a virus that would cause his or her FEC data file to crash the FEC file application each time that it was loaded on the day of the filing deadline, as well as impact other critical campaign systems,” Webb wrote.
He then realised what a load of shite he was talking and deleted that Facebook post, only to come back with this gem:
Nothing like a good Bible quote to come back from a porn controversy.
At least he grew his Twitter and Facebook following, although I wouldn’t suggest any local brands or politicians follow suit.
