When it comes to PETA, you should know that any of their campaign ads are going to shock you into disbelief, if only for a minute or two until the next tantalising video comes your way.
The animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia invited unsuspecting shoppers to get their hands on some leather goods. But within every product was a nasty surprise.
You see, “The Leather Work” store in a mall in Bangkok was set up in the region because the illegal snakeskin industry is booming, and Thailand has the largest crocodile farming industry in the world. This called for drastic measures. Explains Huffington Post:
The cultivation of reptile skins can be especially gruesome and inhumane, according to PETA. In the past, the organization has alleged cruel slaughtering practices on crocodile farms, and the group’s alarming reports have led the English actress Jane Birkin to demand Hermès rename the coveted crocodile bag bearing her name.
“Every bit of animal skin, no matter how small, represents the intense suffering of all animals who are killed to make clothing,” PETA Asia wrote on its website. “Every fur coat, every leather shoe, every snakeskin wallet — it’s all the same because it’s their skin, not ours.”
The animal rights activists affixed artificial skin and fake organs into each product, complete with fake blood in gloves and shoes so when people tried them on they got covered in it.
Funny to watch the horrid expressions when most of the shoppers have high end leather bags on their arms.
