If you fancy making a quick R10 000 you might want to keep a close eye on Bree Street restaurant The Nunnery.
That’s because the property’s owner, attorney Percival Choritz, has offered a hefty reward for proof that the restaurant is actually a front for a brothel.
No we’re not talking about 122 Bree Street and Nauty40, where people have been jumping out of windows to avoid being nabbed, we’re talking about the restaurant that sits close to Orphanage on the upper Bree Street strip.
This mess all started from an open letter penned by Reverend of St Paul’s Church K Groepe, co-signed by Bree Street property owner Katherine Friedman, which was then posted on Facebook HERE.
Here’s a little snippet of that letter:
We have endured the illicit and sorrowful trade at 207 Bree Street which commenced around 2010 and confirm that we have witnessed a large number of incidents which include:
– drunken, foul and abusive behaviour from male customers
– strong-handed ‘security’ techniques and intimidation
– a steady stream of single men arriving and leaving through-out the night
– large number of loud taxis leaving at all hours of the morning
– loud music at all hours
– intimidation to my family and members of my congregation who have the misfortune to encounter the remnants of your Saturday night trade during our early Sunday service
– crying women who clearly worked there, cast out onto the street
– a regular number of police raids
The recent signage ‘The Nunnery’ makes a further, very public mockery, not only of our faith but also the history and heritage of Cape Town – the church has stood on this site and has served the people of Cape Town for almost 160 years – but also further highlights the utter contempt and disrespect afforded to our Church and congregation by your shameful tenant Mr Nunn.
Now Choritz has fired back, posting this in response:
More from IOL:
Friedman said The Nunnery’s owner, Garith Nunn (Choritz’s tenant), had since moved “the girls” to another venue in Plein Street.
Nunn has since accused Friedman of plotting against himself and Choritz. “Her allegations have caused me and my family great damage. My eldest was recently beaten up at school because of the rumours she’s spreading and my business is suffering.
“Friedman wants to buy the property and increase the rent,” Nunn said.
Friedman said: “My only motivation is to make Bree Street a better place to live.”
You know we love your sleuthing skills, so who wants to drop us an email and let us know what you’ve seen?
We’re not after your R10 000, we just like poking things with sticks to see what happens.
