If you came here looking to be angered by poaching we’ll have to let you down, because for once it is natural causes that have led to this rhino’s death.
This rare footage was filmed by Kruger Park tourist Eric Knopp, who watched on as a pride of lions attacked and then fed on a young rhino.
Here’s what Eric had to say to Traveller 24:
“When we arrived, the lion was busy trying to kill the rhino. We were told that 10 minutes prior, the lion had jumped on the back of the rhino. He continued for about 20 minutes and just as we were about to leave, the male lion rested and his lady lion and their cub came into the picture. The lioness continued trying to kill the rhino, with the cub playing around in the background.”
No one wants to see the already diminished numbers of rhinos in South Africa further dented, but at least in this case it isn’t for something as mindless as fake medicinal properties.
