On Friday news broke that ‘on the udder hand Darren’ Naas Botha may have found himself in a bit of a financial mess, the former rugby star seeing his estate provisionally sequestrated in the Pretoria High Court (HERE).
Everyone’s thoughts were generally along the same lines: how does someone who has worked for SuperSport for more than 20 years find themselves in such a situation?
It then began to emerge that Naas may have been somewhat creative with his affairs, something picked up on by Sport24:
[Nedbank] claims that Botha is using five different identification numbers and that his income and assets are hidden in listed corporate entities.
This makes it difficult for creditors to seize Botha’s assets to recover debts, the bank said in court papers.
He is believed to be director of 42 corporate entities.
Despite the allegations SuperSport have decided to stick by their man:
Pay channel SuperSport says it will not remove former Springbok Naas Botha from its television screens despite allegations of financial mismanagement…
…a spokesperson for SuperSport, Clinton van der Berg, says they will not become involved in the allegations against Botha.
“We are aware of it and appreciate what Naas is going through, but we see it as a private matter. Naas will continue with his job as sport presenter here. He is a really nice guy. No steps will be taken,” said Van der Berg.
Ag ja no lekker boet, it would be a shame if we lost Naas and Ashwin or Breyton had to move to an actual seat instead of rocking the touch screen.
