I really wish every time someone treated someone in the service industry like shit they would brag about it on Facebook.
Maybe then they would all get cash money and be able to make a solid investment.
Anyways, so this Obz Cafe waitress who was reduced to tears by a couple of black people (who then bragged about it on Facebook) has now been given around R120 000. Say what?! According to others who work at the restaurant, people are still popping in to give Ashleigh Schultz some cash.
It all began when Sihle Ngobese, spokesperson for Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz, gave Ashley R50 from his own pocket. His friend, Roman Cabanac, who has a CliffCentral podcast, then began a Twitter fundraising campaign. They raised a total of R44 777.
Another good samaritan, Ernst Shea-Kruger, then started a fundraiser on gofundme.com, raising over R80 000 for the girl.
While there has been little comment from the waitress, she did tell the Sunday Times:
I can now use this money to put down a deposit on a place near my mom and be with her because she is sick. I can also stop working for a while.
Good for Ashleigh and fair play to those who raised money for her, but what kind of precedent does this really set? Although it has worked out quite nicely for her, for those of you who aren’t as “lucky” maybe your best bet is to play tonight’s R5 billion Powerball lotto.
