If you know someone prone to a rant on Facebook, and unfortunately most of us do, could you please have a word with them about thinking before they post?

Another day, another example of why social media has the ability to drive a wedge between South Africans. This time it’s a woman called Suzette Kotze, now suspended by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) after her tirade was found out.

TimesLive with the details:

The NSPCA said in a statement that Matlosana manager Suzette Kotze had posted on social media: “May the lord forgive me but I wish all whore motherf***er k*****s die a horrible suffering suffocating (sic) death!!!!”

It said that “racism will not be tolerated” and the matter had been reported to the SA Human Rights Commission.

Kotze also allegedly forced a “kennel assistant…to enter a kennel where there was a vicious dog which attacked him‚ leaving him incapacitated”.

Her anger allegedly stems from reports that there had been a slaughter of animals at the Matlosana NSPCA branch, although the organisation vehemently denies these allegations:

[Kotze’s] suspension‚ the NSPCA said‚ did not go down well with management and staff “and we believe that various tactics are being deployed to elicit public or media sympathy and discredit” the national body.

“There has been no mass euthanasia or ‘murder’ by NSPCA personnel at the Matloslana SPCA. Visuals circulating on Facebook and other media claiming to be proof of this were NOT taken at the Matloslana SPCA.

“Six dogs and a cat were euthanased by NSPCA personnel‚ at the request of the owner/s of the animals‚ due to various health reasons and old age‚ with the exception of one animal.”

Not to downplay the love we all have for the animals we call pets, but surely we should afford our fellow humans the decency of not addressing them with a word that carries such filthy and denigrating connotations?

Do we now sit and wait for one of those lame, half-arsed apologies to which we have become so used to?

Just do better South Africa, and if you can’t then at least take your outdated vitriol and sit in the corner by yourself before you think about posting.
