Can you believe that it has only been three years since Edward Snowden leaked those NSA documents for the world to see. By releasing the information to the public, he was able to make Americans aware of the extent to which their government was spying on them via a deeply involved surveillance program.
Now, Oliver Stone has turned the story into a political thriller featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowden himself. Telling the tale of the leak and its consequences, Snowden focuses on Snowden’s decision to go forward with the leak and “the government’s attempts to keep the NSA’s classified information under wraps”. It features many star players, such as Zachary Quinto (Glenn Greenwald), Shailene Woodley (girlfriend Lindsay Mills), and Nicolas Cage.
It is reported the Snowden leant some help to Stone and Gordon-Levitt and he must support the film because he tweeted this:
The movie is set to be released 16 September.
