Travelling the globe, Mihaela Noroc went on a mission to document the various kinds of beauty found in its every corner.
But the idea of beauty was one totally interpreted by her – and you may notice that the majority of women share very similar features: tall, long hair and slim frames.
In a series called ‘The Atlas Of Beauty’, Mihaela set out two years ago to capture one particular definition of “beauty”.
So while she proclaims to photograph “the diversity of natural feminine beauty in all kinds of environments and cultures”, it’s difficult to believe that she actually understands what she is saying.
Another issue I have is that while she attempts to document each woman’s life, she almost always leaves out their name and only sometimes refers to them with their first name. Naming someone gives so much more power to the image, identifying each person as an individual. Without names, she is just bunching them all into one group.
