If you listen to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” it’s almost an ode to his fans, for after 23 years he is back – and no, this is not a rickroll.
He really never did give you up, or let you down, or run around and desert you. He did, however, lie about his retirement as he has just released a new single set to be off his latest studio album.
Although he admitted he never stopped making music – he released “Keep It Turned On” in Germany in 2001 and “Portrait”, a cover of pop standards in the UK in 2005 – this is the first time he felt comfortable enough to release a proper album. And it is also his 50th birthday this year.
I’ve always dabbled with things, I’ve just never been really desperate to make a record again. But I just feel comfortable enough to do it again.
It’s actually not that bad, but just for old time’s sake, here’s his classic:
