At one point or another we have all had to explain the behaviour of our father to someone else, especially these days when he’s getting rather long in the tooth.
At least my father never stole from the country he governs though, which is why Edward Zuma has had to don his spin doctor cap and go into overdrive.
There’s a joke doing the rounds out there about how you know when a Zuma is lying – something about his lips moving. Over to TimesLive:
[Edward] said on Wednesday that there was an orchestrated plot to remove his father from the helm of Africa’s most industrialised economy.
“We know it’s only not about the well being of the country … its about merely personal vendettas that they have against the President of the country,” Edward Zuma said in an interview with ENCA television station.
“They are feeling the pressure, the pressure is simple: get Zuma out of power. They have tried many tricks in the book, they have failed.”
Sure thing Edward, it has nothing to do with his cosy relationship with the Guptas or the lavish spending at Nkandla. Certainly not anything to do with lifting his leg and pissing on the Constitution, or the way he handled the aftermath of the horrific murders at Marikana.
Schabir Shaik, the plummeting rand, failure to deliver on promises of job creation, a habit of delivering misogynistic comments – I could go on but I think the picture is plain for all to see.
