When in trouble, find some sand. That should be a basic rule of thumb in the aviation world – especially among those who fly lightweight airplanes. On Saturday afternoon, Lookout Beach in Plett received an unexpected visitor when a Cessna light aircraft made an emergency landing just by the shore. The two men who were on board the aircraft were the pilot instructor and trainee pilot and thank goodness, no one was hurt.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew spokesperson Craig Lambinon said:
On arrival on the scene, a Cessna light aircraft was found to have made an emergency landing on the beach; and it is believed that the light aircraft may have suffered engine failure while flying over Keurbooms Lagoon while on a pilot training flight from George Airport, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on the beach.
Now, the below video is not of the incident we are talking about, but it will show you a dashcam point of view, just so you understand what the pair might have gone through:
Another duo made a similar emergency landing on a beach in Virginia, just north of Durban.
Investigations are under way to find out the reasons for both plane mishaps.
