What better way to raise funds then to auction off your sister on a local Facebook buy / sell group. In an attempt to get some cash for her and her longboarding buddies, Holly Blindel of Hillcrest, Durban, offered up her 26-year-old sister, Melissa for date.
After a day of bidding, Melissa scored a date with a mystery man who paid R2 500.
The money will go towards helping Holly and her three other team members to attend the national competition in Mossel Bay.
I am very new to longboarding and I didn’t think I had made the team. I arrived home one night and found out I was in and then it was like, holy shit, how are we going to pay for this tournament.
My sister and I sat at the dinner table to brainstorm how we would fund it. We thought raffles and even begging at the robots, and then she actually suggested auctioning off a one-time dinner date.
She says now, dependent on who it is, it might be more than a one-time thing. Perhaps if he’s really fetching and she likes him.
After listing her sister, she has gained a lot more fund through donations and other people who have come forward to help. Go, team!
