Sometimes you really have to wonder about some of the scams that manage to rope people in and fleece them of their cash. That doesn’t mean you can’t be sympathetic, but imagine Oscar Pistorius being dumb enough to think he could make his murder conviction disappear.
That’s exactly what someone tried to tell him though, that conman now arrested after he targeted Oscar. The BBC reports:
The man posed as a prosecutor and demanded 250,000 rand ($16,400; £11,300) in order to “make the case disappear”, local media say.
He has now been charged with corruption, according to South Africa police spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi…
…the conman contacted the former Olympic athlete on Thursday night. He was then arrested following a police sting operation.
In a statement, Mr Mulaudzi said: “A 33-year-old man was arrested on Friday afternoon in Pretoria soon after he received a deposit of 40,000 rand for his services which included… [having] Oscar Pistorius’ murder case destroyed.”
News24 carries this on the story:
The man allegedly called Pistorius on Thursday night, informing him he could make the case disappear…
Pistorius’s family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess told News24: “We can confirm the incident in which Oscar was approached by an individual masquerading as a NPA official. He informed the Hawks who then executed a sting operation and arrested the said individual. We wish to commend the Hawks for their swift and efficient handling of the matter.”
I think there’s more chance of Oscar inheriting millions from a Nigerian prince than there is of him squashing that murder conviction.
