There’s a difference between routine and repetition. Routine is washing your hair when it gets dirty; Repetition is misinterpreting the instructions and finishing a whole bottle of shampoo in one go. While putting a routine in place can benefit your life, doing the same thing over, and over, and over again is probably the most boring thing I could think of. So, we thought about certain ways you can break your repetitive behaviour and maybe get a little more excitement in your life, other than that daily bite into your favourite sandwich. This is Pick the Brain had to say, kind of:
Don’t have time? That’s not an excuse:
Don’t tell me you don’t have time to change anything in your life. An action as simple as choosing to get lunch from another place or changing the radio station on your drive to and from work is a great start. Maybe even have a conversation with that random person you happen to stand in the lift with on the odd occasion. There’s no harm in saying “Hi” even if it is the last thing on your mind.
Routine is there to be broken:
However, to be fair on those of you who thrive on having a strict routine, the best part of having one is being able to break it. Just like those guilty titbits you eat during a diet, you can work around your structured life to do things you want to do. Breaking your routine allows you to see the world from a different perspective, if only for a little while. Why not take a different route to work, or take a day off work. Taking a “Me Day” is the best way to break a routine as you probably don’t have any plans and can really use the whole day for doing things just for yourself. Personally, it’s one of my favourites.
Say “Yes” more often:
The easiest way to break from your routine is to say “yes” more often than “no”. Not only does this allow your brain a break from coming up with something interesting to do by relying on someone else’s plans, you will most probably meet a whole range of new people at the same time. Go to that braai where you only know one person, go dancing with your sister’s best friend when your sister bails on you, go play kick at the goals with football legend Teko Modise instead of playing Fifa.
Sorry, what?
Yeah, friends don’t let friends do the same old thing over, and over, and over again. Life’s too short – and Red Heart Spiced is on a mission to encourage friends to nominate that mate who just never gets out of his comfort zone.
Thabiso did just that and nominated his friend Thulani to Flip the Script with DJ Roger Goode and Red Heart Spiced. You see, Thulani loves soccer, but these days the only goals he is scoring is through his Playstation – before work, after work and all weekend long! Thabiso thinks Thulani and his Playstation could do with some time apart.
So imagine Thulani’s surprise, when Roger Goode knocked on his door on an average Saturday morning, and flipped his script. Yeah, it could happen to you, too.
